about santa croce

Santa Croce is a quiet district in the north western part of the city.  It was named after the monastery of Santa Croce, which was demolished in 1810.  The old site is now partly occupied by the Giardino Papadopoli.  It is a district that has one of the most charming campos in the city, and a fabulous museum fronting the Grand Canal.

These walks take in some of the finest museums the city has to offer: alternatives to the high-traffic/tourist areas like San Marco.  This district has a more ‘lived in’ feel than some of the others.  See a ‘flyover’ of the walk on YouTube here.
